I. Introduction
The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1998 to answer the following questions about Bachelor of Arts graduates with major in Linguistics : -
II. Employment Situation in 1998
Of the 17 respondents who majored in Linguistics, 82% (or 14 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 5.9% (or 1 graduate) went on for further studies. Another 12% (or 2 graduates) were still seeking full-time employment at the time of the survey. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies
The one graduate who pursued postgraduate studies took up a M.Phil. programme in Arts. Table 2 shows the academic programme pursued & Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment
Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 79% secured their first job offer before the end of September. The figure increased to 100% after December 1998. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors
39% (or 5 graduates) each of the Linguistics graduates were employed in commerce & industry and education, followed by 23% (or 3 graduates) in the civil service. (Figure 2)

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income
The remuneration received by the Linguistics graduates is shown in Table 4.

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers
Of these in full-time employment, 62% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 15% reported having received three or five job offers. (Figure 3)
