Where did the 1997 PC.LL.(SPACE) graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates : -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1997

Out of 92 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates, 59 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 64%. Of these, 92% (or 54 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 3.4% (or 2 graduates) were still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey. Another 3.4% (or 2 graduates) went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

One graduate who pursued postgraduate studies took up a master (coursework) programme in business administration, while the other graduate studied law. One was enrolled in a local tertiary institution and the other went to U.S.A.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates in full-time employment, 87% secured their first job offer before the end of September. The percentage increased to 100% after December 1997. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

Most (91% or 48 graduates) of the 1997 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates were employed in commerce & industry, followed by 5.7% (or 3 graduates) in the civil service. The remaining 3.8% (or 2 graduates) joined the education sector. (Figures 2 & 3)

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

In general, the average income received by the 1997 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates was higher than that of their predecessors in the previous year. (Table 4)

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

Of those in full-time employment, 63% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 52% reported having received three to eight or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 2.8 job offers. (Figure 4)
