Where did the 1997 P.C.LL. graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about P.C.LL. graduates : -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1997

Out of 196 P.C.LL. graduates, 140 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 71%. Of these, 94% (or 132 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 1.4% (or 2 graduates) were still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey. 4.3% (or 6 graduates) went on further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

Four graduates who pursued postgraduate studies took up a master (coursework) programme in law. They studied abroad, in U.K. and U.S.A.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 92% secured their first job offer before the end of August. The figure increased to 100% by the end of December. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

Most (92% or 122 graduates) of the 1997 P.C.LL. graduates were employed in commerce & industry, followed by 6.8% (or 9 graduates) in the civil service. The remaining 0.8% (or 1 graduate) joined the education sector. (Figures 2 & 3)

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

Of those in full-time employment, 74% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 61% reported having received three to eight or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 3.2 job offers. (Figure 4)
