Where did the 1997 M.Arch. graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about M.Arch. graduates : -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1997

Out of 58 M.Arch. graduates, 49 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 85%. Of these, 98% (or 48 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Another 2% (or 1 graduate) was still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey in December 1997. (Table 1)

III. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 70% secured their first job offer before the end of July. The percentage increased to 100% by the end of September. (Figure 1)

IV. Employment Sectors

Most (98% or 47 graduates) of the M.Arch. graduates were employed in commerce and industry. The remaining 2.1% (or 1 graduate) joined the civil service. (Figures 2 & 3)

V. Basic Salary and Gross Income

In general, the average income of the 1997 M.Arch. graduates was a little higher than that of their predecessors in the previous year. (Table 2)

VI. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

Of those in full-time employment, 56% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 27% reported having received three to eight or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 2.1 job offers. (Figure 4)
