Where did the 1997 B. Eng. - Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates go?

 

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates : -

 

II. Employment Situation in 1997

All of 13 graduates responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 100%. Of these, 69% (or 9 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 31% (or 4 graduates) went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

Four graduates pursued further studies in the same discipline as their first degree. All of them were enrolled in local tertiary institutions. Table 2 shows the academic programme Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates were engaged in & Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

89% of the graduates were able to secure their first job offer before the end of September. The figure reached 100% by the end of October. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

All (9 graduates) of the 1997 Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates were employed in commerce & industry. (Figure 2)

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

67% of the graduates had more than one job offer. In fact, 56% reported having received three or more job offers. On average, each graduate received 2.7 job offers. (Figure 3)
