. IntroductionThe information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1997 to answer the following questions about B.Sc. graduates : -
II. Employment Situation in 1997
Out of 467 B.Sc. graduates, 398 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 85%. Of these, 75% (or 298 graduates) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 6.3% (or 25 graduates) were still seeking full-time employment at the time of the survey. Another 18% (or 73 graduates) went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies
Of the 73 graduates who pursued further studies, 53 were enrolled in local tertiary institutions, two graduates each went to the U.K. and Australia and one graduate went to Canada. Table 2 shows the academic programmes the graduates were engaged in and Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment
Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 87% secured their first job offer before the end of September. The percentage increased to 100% after December 1997. (Figure 1)
V. Employment Sectors
77% of the B.Sc. graduates were employed in commerce and industry, followed by 13% in the education and 7.2% in the civil service. The remaining 2.4% joined the community, social and personal services. (Figures 2 & 3)


VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income
In general , the average income of 1997 B.Sc. graduates was higher than that of their predecessors in the previous year. (Table 4)

VII. Number of Full-Time Job offers
63% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer. 35% reported having received three to eight or more offers. On average, each graduate received 2.3 job offers, compared with 2.0 job offers last year. (Figure 4)
