Where did the 1996 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 71 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates, 49 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 69%. Of these, 92% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. The remaining 4% were still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey in December 1996. One graduate (2%) went on for further studies (Table 1).

III. Further Studies

There was only one respondent (or 2%) who pursued further studies. Table 2 shows the academic programmes pursued and Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates in full-time employment, 84% were able to secure a job offer before the end of September. The figure increased to 100% by the end of November. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

96% of the 1996 P.C.LL. (S.P.A.C.E.) graduates in full-time employment were employed in commerce & industry. 2.2% (or 1 graduate) each joined the civil service and community, social & personal services (Figure 3).

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

47% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer (Figure 4).
