Where did the 1996 P.C.LL. graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about P.C.LL. graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 186 P.C.LL. graduates, 120 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 65%. Of these, 92% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 5.8% took up further studies. 1.7% (or 2 graduates) were still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey in December 1996. (Table 1)

III.Further Studies

Among the 7 P.C.LL. graduates who went on for further studies, 29% (or 2 graduates) each pursued their studies in Hong Kong and U.K., while 14% (1 graduate) each went to Australia and Japan. Table 2 shows the academic programmes they were engaged in and Table 3 shows the source of finance.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 93% secured their first job offer before the end of September. The figure increased to 98% by the end of December. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

86% of the 1996 P.C.LL. graduates were employed in commerce & industry. The remaining 12% joined the civil service and 2% worked in community, social & personal services. (Figure 2)

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

On the whole, the 1996 P.C.LL. graduates received a higher income than their predecessors in the previous year . (Table 4)

67% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer (Figure 4).
