Where did the 1996 German Studies graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about German Studies majors : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Of the 8 respondents who reported to major in German Studies, 7 graduates (88%) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 12.5% (or 1 graduate) was still looking for full-time employment at the time of the survey in December 1996. (Table 1)

III. Time Taken to Secure Employment

All the graduates were able to secure employment before the end of August 1996.

IV. Employment Sectors

57% (or 4 graduates) of the German Studies graduates were employed in commerce and industry, followed by 27% (or 2 graduates) in the education sector and 14% (or 1 graduate) in the civil service. (Figure 2)

V. Basic Salary and Gross Income

Table 2 shows the basic salary and gross income that 1996 German Studies graduates received.

VI.Number of Full-Time Job Offers

71% (or 5) of the graduates in full-time employment had two or more job offers. (Figure 3).
