Where did the 1996 B.Eng. - Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about Electrical Energy Systems Engineering graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 17 B.Eng. - EESE graduates, 13 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 77%. Of these, 92% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. 7.7% (or 1 graduate) went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

The only graduate who took up further studies was enrolled on a M.Phil. programme in HK.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

83% of the graduates were able to secure their first job offer before the end of August. By October, the figure reached 92%. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

83% of the B.Eng. - EESE graduates were employed in commerce & industry, followed by 8.3% each in civil service and community, social & personal services.

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

Table 4 shows the basic salary and gross income that 1996 B.Eng. - EESE graduates received.

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

75% of the graduates had more than one job offer. In fact, 58% reported having received three or more job offers (Figure 4). On average, each graduate received 2.6 job offers.
