Where did the 1996 B.Sc.(Surveying) graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Out of 46 B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates, 41 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 89%. Of these, 98% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation while 2.4% went on for further studies. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

The only graduate who pursued further studies was enrolled on a Bachelor programme in Sweden.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

75% were able to secure their first job offer before the end of May. The figure increased to 100% by September. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

73% of the graduates were employed in commerce and industry, followed by 25% in civil service.

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

In general , the average income of 1996 B.Sc. (Surveying) graduates was higher than that of their pedecessors in the previous year. (Table 4)

VII. Number of Full-Time Job Offers

83% of the graduates had more than one job offer. 55% reported having received three or more job offers (Figure 4). The average number of job offers per graduate was 2.8, compared with 2.7 last year.
