Where did the 1996 B.B.A. (Accounting & Finance) graduates go?

I. Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about B.B.A. (Accounting & Finance) graduates : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Of the 88 B.B.A. (Accounting & Finance) graduates, 77 responded to our survey, representing a response rate of 88%. Of these 99% were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Only one graduate (1.3%) went on for further studies. No unemployment was reported. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

The only graduate who pursued further studies was enrolled in a Ph.D. programme in Business Administration in the U.K.

IV.Time Taken to Secure Employment

Among those graduates who were in full-time employment, 71% secured their first job offer before the end of May 1996. The figure steadily increased to 100% by the end of December.

V. Employment Sectors

The majority (95%) of Accounting & Finance graduates were employed in the commerce and industry sector, followed by 2.6% in the civil service and 2.6% in community, social and personal services. (Figure 2). Separate figures for male and female graduates are shown in Figure 3.

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

The average income of 1996 Accounting & Finance graduates is shown in Table 4.

VII.Number of Full-Time Job Offers

76% of the graduates in full-time employment had more than one job offer. 51% reported having received three or more offers. On average, each BBA (Accounting & Finance) graduate received 3 offers. (Figure 4)

VIII.Names of employers and job titles

Of the 76 Accounting & Finance graduates in full-time employment, 80% were employed as accountants and auditors and 13% as business professionals*. The job titles and the names of their employers are listed below.
