Where did the 1996 Politics & Public Administration graduates go?

I.Introduction

The information contained in this paper is extracted from the Graduate Employment Survey of 1996 to answer the following questions about Politics & Public Administration majors : -

II. Employment Situation in 1996

Of the 24 respondents who reported to major in Politics & Public Administration, 23 graduates (96%) were in full-time employment within six months of graduation. Another 4.2% (or 1 graduate) went on for further studies. No one was unemployed. (Table 1)

III. Further Studies

There was only one respondent (or 4.2%) who pursued further studies. This graduate took up a Master course in a local institution.

IV. Time Taken to Secure Employment

83% (19) of the graduates secured their first job offer before the end of September and the employment rate increased to 100% (23) in December 1996. (Figure 1)

V. Employment Sectors

The largest employment sector was commerce and industry (61% or 14 graduates), followed by the education sector, the civil service and community, social & personal services (13% or 3 graduates each) (Figure 3).

VI. Basic Salary and Gross Income

Table 4 shows the basic salary and gross income received by the 1996 Politics & Public Administration graduates.
